Not all of us have the time, energy, or, even, motivation, to do our whole practice every day. Yet, we still want to be able to do something and it’s hard to know what to do outside simply following the sequence.

You might be a teacher who needs to offer a short class but you're not sure how to present Ashtanga in a way that keeps students interested.

The unhelpful idea that we must do our whole practice and follow the sequence exactly if we are to practice at all is not an effective or realistic precedent for a whole lifetime. We are organic beings and not robots. We need to suit the practice to our fluctuations and changes; both daily, and over the years.

To know where to start in modifying and adapting our practice can be quite challenging. Especially when we were attracted to this system because we enjoy not having to think about what to do next.

It's good news to know that we might use certain principles to create short practices that are still balanced and effective for progress. There is a method of going about structuring a practice form to suit yourself day to day and once we know the framework we may rightfully and validly use our knowledge to structure our practice so that it is as practically supporting and sustainable for us as it can be.

In this workshop, we shall look at the theory behind creating our Ashtanga-based practices, so you can feel confident in the process and see the benefits of what you’re doing. This will also involve going through a short practice together to see how it feels.

The workshop is suitable for all levels, shortening is not just for beginners.

Cost: €30 approx approx £26 US$32.50

The link to the workshop recording will be sent out by email within 24 hours. If you can't attend live, sign up for the class to automatically receive the link and check your spam if you can't find the email.

Adam Keen

Adam made his first trip to Mysore in 2007, received level 2 authorisation in 2012 and completed the Advanced A sequence of Ashtanga yoga in 2013 with Sharathji.  He has been a yoga practitioner since 1999, starting with hatha yoga while studying philosophy at university.

Having taught internationally and spent over ten years running a Mysore program in his native London, Adam’s style is open, non-dogmatic and eclectic while remaining rooted in an appreciation of the tradition as taught in Mysore. He has a unique way of making everyone welcome and meeting students where they are with humour and kindness.

He is a co-founder of Keen on Yoga, an online yoga platform hosting workshops and events, and the host of the Keen on Yoga Podcast and YouTube channels. Adam has interviewed and learned from most of the top Ashtanga teachers and philosophy academics in this capacity, leading to a unique overview of the modern yoga world and teaching approaches.

When not practising yoga, Adam likes to cook – in his earlier years, he was a chef, supporting himself in this profession by cooking in Buddhist and yoga centres whilst studying yoga. This took him to Purple Valley in Goa, where he was employed as the chef by his future wife, Theresa who was Director of the centre at the time.

Still a philosophy student at heart, Adam shares his thoughts and experience daily on social media, where you can find him discussing many of the questions that come to our minds, but we’re often afraid or unsure how to ask. Find him on Instagram @adam_keen_ashtanga
