#18 – Keen on Yoga Podcast with Petri Raisanen
In this Keen on Yoga Podcast Adam talks to Petri Raisanen, a well known figure in the Ashtanga yoga world.
Practicing since 1989 and teaching since ’91, this is not without reason. His wealth of experience is also based on his training in traditional Finnish folk healing he undertook from a young age in his native country.
He has co-authored 2 books with Pattabhi Jois and Sharathji, the first Ashtanga Yoga (2005) on the Primary Series, and Nadi Shodhana (2008), on the Intermediate. These are beautifully photographed as well as uniquely instructional – almost no one else has had the privilege or this rare collaboration.
Petri focuses on integrating healing and therapy with yoga. He meets student’s individual needs and guides their progress. His adjustments are gentle, effective, therapeutic. According to some, almost magical. They originate from his past work as a traditional Finnish folk healer and naturopath. His friendly, relaxed behaviour and intuitive perception give an energetic and meditative feel to his classes.
Yet, Petri remains humble, quiet and self-effacing. He attributes this to his Finnish culture. But we still find him as a man, as well as a teacher, quite remarkable.
