A couple of days after visiting Crocosaurus Cove I started working there, yipee!! I am now the new Reptile Handler and Diver and am absolutely loving it!
It has been 2 weeks, and I now clean out the reptile enclosures of poo and wee in the morning. The reptiles consist of snakes (the non-venemous ones), goannas, dragons, skinks and geckos.
I take the morning "Meet the Reptiles Show", where I talk about the Reptile house and the animals that I have out for everyone to handle. This is always a Skink (usually a blue tongue), a Bearded Dragon and a type of Python. Soooo Cool!!
During the Aquarium Feeding Show I dive in the huge aquarium and hand feed the rays and giant baramundi, while one of the others talk about the fish to the crowd. I also feed big saw fish, but not by hand.
I do heaps of other things, like feeding the 80 odd reptiles off display and feeding the reptiles on display during the Reptile Feeding show. The most exciting experience so far is when I had to wrestle and hold down a sick and very unfriendly 2 metre Olive Python, while my supervisor Sarah (who is smaller than me) tackled the head end and force fed it antibiotics. It was a bit scary and out of control, and maybe I'm a bit stupid, but I honestly can't wait to do it again!
We dont have anything to do with the Crocs, they have their own team, and everyone is great to work with.
